The World Olympians Association (WOA) and GB Olympians provided a Service to Society grant to print a special judo book for the children of the Everest region in Nepal.
«Everest Judo: How Judo Reached the Top of the World» celebrates the incredible work of Kazi Sherpa Sensei and Dawa Sherpa and many more in developing an incredible judo community through the Khumbu region right up to the highest dojo in the world (Khumjung, at 4000m).
In 2023, Miriam Blasco and myself trekked up to the base of Mount Everest, along the way stopping at the different dojos, where we held classes and gave out the book to encourage judo in the area and leave behind educational resources for the children.
On behalf of the wider judo community (who bought copies of the book) we were also able to present Everest Judo Club with a cheque for £1,000.00. This enabled scholarships for several of the young coaches and it is hoped they will return to the Khumbu region once trained to sustain the development of judo throughout the area.
Koka Kids and Everest Judo Club are forever united.
