“Lerne Judo” becomes the first Koka Kids book in German

Sportschule Bischoff and Koka Kids have partnered up to create the first Koka Kids Judo book in the German language.

“I always wanted to have a book for beginners in judo, which covers especially how and what we teach at our school. So when I saw the offer on your website, to produce a book for a club I knew that I wanted to have this in a German version.”

What is Lerne Judo?

“Lerne Judo” is a 92-page book that contains the full Sportschule Bischoff syllabus up until orange belt, translated into the German language.

All techniques are fully illustrated with step by step tutorials.

Plus there are pages dedicated to other important parts of judo including dojo etiquette, randori rules, tips on how to score an ippon, the moral code and Jigoro Kano.

Nik Fairbrother (from Koka Kids) and Jörg Bischoff (from Sportschule Bischoff) have worked together to produce the first ever Koka Kids Judo Book in the German language.

Interview with Sensei Jörg Bischoff

Hi Jörg, how do you plan to use the book to help your judoka progress technically and learn the skills they need right the way up to orange belt?

The book covers in detail all the techniques and many other things like dojo rules or randori rules exactly the way we teach it at our school. So the book is great for the kids to look at it at home and repeat what they learned in training.

We will use it also during class and together with other materials from Koka Kids. We have posters at the wall with randori rules and the basic throws and their directions. So we can always refer to the book.

Our training cards are another important piece in our training. Every kid has a card for the next belt, where you can see how many times she or he has to come to training, what techniques must be shown and what she or he already has mastered.

How do you think the visual images help the kids learn?

I like the pictures because they look cool like comics but also show the throws in a very good and dynamic style from a technical view. The animations at the Koka Kids website make it even better, as you can see the technique in motion.

Why did you choose Koka Kids to produce the book for you?

I know the koka kids materials for quite a long time and always liked them very much. I don’t know another resource with pictures of this quality and at the same time in a style that kids like.

I always wanted to have a book for beginners in judo, which covers especially how and what we teach at our school. So when I saw the offer on your website, to produce a book for a club I knew that I wanted to have this in a German version.
